Lottery Information
Kindergarten Enrollment
To be eligible for Kindergarten in the 2026-2027 school year, a child must be five years old on or before September 1, 2026. Students eligible for Kindergarten must first enroll at their home elementary school. Kindergarten registration will take place on January 21, 2026, at all TUSD home school sites, or you can also apply online. Applications for TUSD Choice Programs will be distributed at the student’s home school upon successful registration for Kindergarten. Completed Choice Program applications are due by 4:00 PM on January 30th to the Walnut Office. Detailed information regarding Kindergarten registration can be found at your home school or the TUSD website. If you are unsure of your home school, you can use the Find My School locator. Students eligible for Transitional Kindergarten (TK) should contact their home school. Walnut Elementary does not have a Transitional Kindergarten program.
Kinder Enrollment for Students Residing Outside of the TUSD Boundaries
Walnut Elementary will accept applications from K-6 students residing outside the Turlock Unified School District boundaries for enrollment consideration in the event of an exhausted waitlist. Applications can be picked up from the Walnut Elementary office starting January 12, 2026, and are due by 4:00 PM on January 30th. If offered a spot at Walnut, the family's responsible for providing an approved inter-district transfer agreement to secure enrollment. Refer to the TUSD inter-district transfer guidelines for more information.
Parent Information Night
A team of administrators and teachers will be presenting general information about Walnut Elementary on Monday, January 12th, from 6-7 PM in the Walnut Elementary cafeteria. Information about the lottery and waitlist will be reviewed, and parents will have an opportunity to ask questions at the conclusion of the presentation.
Lottery Information
The Walnut Lottery will be held on Wednesday, February 4th, at 5:30 PM in the Walnut Elementary Cafeteria. Families may attend, but are not required to accept a position. Families will be contacted by email on or before February 10th with information on their student's lottery draw number. Students offered a spot must accept by February 17, 2026.
Incoming Kindergarten siblings of a current Kindergarten-5th grade student has enrollment priority in the magnet of their sibling. An application must be submitted to Walnut for the incoming sibling and he/she must be enrolled at their home school. The Kindergarten sibling lottery will fill the first set of available spots using their draw order.
Students currently on the waiting lists for both magnets will maintain their position and will be offered a spot when an opening occurs. Waiting list positions “rollover” unchanged from year to year.
